The BrickCon 2012 Presentation/Session/Activity schedule is being
finalized this weekend before the program goes to press, so if you'd like
to give a talk/moderate a roundtable/run an activity I need a title,
description, and requirements by September 15, this Saturday.
Also due this Saturday are Audio/Visual stuff associated with a
presentation (such as PowerPoint presentations, videos, or projected
images) which need to go to Nicole, our AV master. Contact me for her
e-mail.
Relatedly, the Virtual LEGO Room Tour, hosted by Carlyle Livingston, will
be returning to BrickCon this year.
http://news.lugnet.com/events/nwbrickcon/?n=419
Basically, this will be a roundtable where people bring pictures of their
Lego storage/build/sorting areas and do a show and tell. Since
those are projected images they will also need to be taken and sent to
Nicole by the end of Saturday.
BrickCon is an annual adult Lego fan convention and exhibition in Seattle
since 2002. BrickCon 2012 will be October 4, 5, 6, and 7 at the Seattle

If you would like to run a session at BrickCon this year please send a proposal
to Thomas Garrison as soon as possible. Include a title, a brief description
suitable for inclusion in the program, facilities requirements, and any schedule

Anyone been to the Lego stores in San Mateo and Santa Clara recently?
Is there anything good in PaB? Or on the shelves, that I can't think of? Or any
good deals?
I'm thinking about making a trip there this weekend, but don't want to waste the
time and gas if there is nothing good.

Members of the Southern California LEGO Train Club (SCLTC) will display a
large cityscape at LEGOLAND California on Friday November 12, 2005 during the

champion, and David Michon, a US national and current LEGO world champion, will
serve as judges along with Tim Petsche, a master model maker from LEGOLAND
California, Michael McNally, the Senior Brand Rlations Manager from LEGO Systems

Huh, what's the deal with Illinois? They've got "Woodfield, IL" and "Schaumburg,
IL" as two different stores, despite the fact that they point to the same store!
(Woodfield looks like it immediately bounces you to the Schaumburg page).
Interestingly, it doesn't look like they've updated the store locator with the
new stores yet (have they added any other new ones?). I notice that MA's new
Natick store isn't represented-- I think it's been around for... uh... almost a
month and a half now?

The Southern California LEGO Train Clubs first ever run at the at 2005
Orange County Fair begins today. SCLTC is providing four separate attractions
consisting of two displays and two building events:
- A train layout
- A flag building record attempt event
- An ISD building record attempt event
- A static display
The train layout is the clubs largest any measure: footprint, table area,
track length, and bricks! It features many of SCLTCs most popular
constructions, including the Art Deco Building, SCLTC Building, 384 stud long
cable-stayed bridge, arch bridge, causeway, auto show room, farm, two inter-rail
stations, automated light rail system, and many others. New attractions include
a mountain top observatory, electronic sign, ocean front including cargo port,
undersea view, and monorail, a skyscraper from our professional architect, cows
run amok in the flower fields, and many more creations. Operation is 100% DCC
with multiple automated reversing loops.
The flag building event begins at 10:00 on Friday July 15 and will attempt to
set a Guinness World Records sanctioned record for the largest free standing
United States flag built entirely of LEGO bricks. The flag will measure over 6
feet high and 12 feet long and contain approximately 200,000 bricks. Visitors
are invited to help with construction.
The ISD building event will attempt to set a new speed mark for constructing a
LEGO Imperial Star Destroyer starting from a sealed box and using a team of no
more than 10 builders. Construction is scheduled for Saturday July 23.
The static display supports the 2005 fair theme, Its Calling You Out to
Play, and includes the Carousel from the 1998 Ultimate LEGO Creation Contest

SCLTC will manage the construction of the worlds largest United States flag
made entirely of LEGO bricks at the 2005 Orange County Fair. Members of the
public are invited to participate in this record breaking attempt to create a
flag 12 feet long and over 6 feet high using approximately 200,000 LEGO bricks!
After consulting both with officials at LEGO Public Relations in Enfield, CT and
Jacob McKee, the LEGO Global Community Relations Specialist, SCLTC confirmed
that a flag this size would indeed be a record setter. SCLTC has applied to
Guinness World Records to officially sanction the record breaking attempt and
has received all the necessary documents to certify the application.
Construction gets underway Friday July 15 and will continue through the
weekend.

Well, I made it to LEGOLAND California. It was great. I took about 550
photos and have now posted over 530 of them to Brickshelf.

The main folder is not public because I have been deleting pictures as I
moved them into the seperate folders. All the sub-folders are public.
A BIG thanks to Mathew Clayson who met me at LLCA. It was great to meet
you and have a guided tour.
And Pick-A-Brick was awesome. I ruined PAB for myself though by starting
at LEGOLAND and going to a LEGO Store after. Everything else pales in
comparison to LEGOLAND PAB. I spent well over $100US at PAB alone. And I
would have spent more if I hadn't been taking pictures of Miniland until
closing. I wish I'd bought my 512M card before my visit, since I had to
go out to my car and download 5 full 128M cards of photos to the laptop
through the day.
Also, thank you to BayLUG who arranged a meeting so I could attend.
It was great to meet you guys. I wish the Valley Fair location had been
open before I left. I see Russell has a picture of the Valley Fair promo
brick posted, so does that mean they are open now?
Thanks again to all. Play well.

Hi everyone -
If you were at BrickFest, you likely heard me introduce the
L PRIZE at Saturday nights session. Id like to give
you some info on how you can help make this happen. (see [1] for more info on
L PRIZE)
Approaching SIGGRAPH, nVidia had already pledged major support to make L PRIZE
a reality [2]. At SIGGRAPH we saw a lot of success and have walked away with
several very enthusiastic potential sponsors. This week, Im following up with
about ten companies - some of which want to offer some rather significant
support.
If you have just a half-hour to an hour a night, or a few hours to spare on a
weekend, you can contribute to L PRIZEs success. If youre looking for an
opportunity to get involved in a cool community project, meet new people, hone
your skills, and give something back, please consider becoming a part of the L
PRIZE.
Heres what I need right now (in order of priority):
- Bay Area Events Coordinator - someone local to coordinate our launch event in Santa Clara, Fall 2004.
- Copywriter - write web copy, news articles, and press releases.
- PR/Marketing Coordinator - design, schedule, and execute marketing campaigns to fall in line with the L PRIZE launch and promotional schedule
- Assistant Coordinator - someone to help me coordinate logistics and scheduling among the volunteer team
- Evangelism Coordinator - L PRIZE has many individual and corporate supporters in the industry - I need someone to develop tools for these people to most effectively spread the word about L PRIZE
- LA Area Events Coordinator
By helping out in any one of these above areas, youll be contributing
tremendously to L PRIZEs success. Youll also expand your horizons by seeing
some really cool things, meeting some really cool people, and growing the hobby
while at the same time gaining personal opportunities you didnt have before.
Please contact me at director@lprize.com if you are interested. From there, Ill
email you some questions and well set up a phone call to talk more.
Thanks!
-Tim
