Has anyone tried ordering from s@h since the new Jan 2002 catalog came out?
(For US delivery.)
I just went online and tried to order $250 worth of bulk bricks and didn't
see any sign of the promised discount! I bailed at that point. Is there some
kind of discrete check box or something you have to check to get the discount?

Ditto. I just verified this by attempting to order 15 copies of grey 2x4
bricks. I got all the way to "Submit Order" with no discount being applied.
x-post & FUT lugnet.lego.direct so that someone from Lego sees & (hopefully)
answers.

Related to that, I was unable to get the free t-shirt with the $75 order online
before Christmas-- the item number kept getting rejected so I ended up ordering
by phone to get it.

I called my order in on Thursday and got my discount taken then. I tried to
order online and even with my catalog code it didn't take 15% off, so I quit
and called. It is probably too new of a order special. I also have not
gotten my free gift with $75 purchase 3 times in a row. Every time I place
an order my free gift goes to backorder and when my shipment arrives the
reciept says "cancelled backorder". They didn't even ask me or refer to the
free gift on Thursday when I placed a $120 order.

John,
When you are on the shopping cart page, there is a place towards the bottom
to put in your catalog code (from the back of the catalog).
I just checked, by placing some trees in my cart, and applying the catalog
code did get me the discount. However, unlike most places, this does not
show up as a seperate line item on the cart page. Rather, it just adjusts
the price of the items in your cart. So, the $5.99 trees became $5.09 and
the $4.99 trees became $4.24.
Of course, they still don't have the 5216 black roof tiles pack listed, so I
guess i'll have to call and order those....

I just tried ordering about $200 by phone (wanted to get the 5216 roof pack
that wasn't available on line). The rep I got had no clue about the bulk
discount, and couldn't find a way to order it for me.

I just tried this and it didn't work for me. My catalog code was "J111". Did
you use a different one?

I think you guys are missing what's printed on the page in the catalogue.
In mine at least it says the discount is on packs bought from pages 30-31 in
the catalogue. NOT on any and all packs you want. Could that be the problem?

I tried only ordering from Pages 30-31, and it didn't work either. I tried
online, and with two different phone reps. The second rep suggested I call
customer service at 1-800-835-4386 when they opened.
I did have a happy ending. I called Customer Service this morning and they
were able to place my 50 pack order through with discounts, and without any
problems. I guess it's so new that it hasn't trickled down properly to all
their channels.
BTW, in Brad Justus' note to LUGNET from Lego Direct, he said that the
discount would apply to "all" bulk packs including through the online
channel - so IMO anything in the online "bulk bricks" category is fair game
for the discounts.
Thanks for your help, and thanks to Lego Direct for the new discount policy.

Mark,
Try calling during the week, during business hours. That way you get an
actual Lego operator instead of the overflow (outsourced) operators you get
during off hours.

All,
Currently, the bulk discount only applies to the items on page 30 and 31 of
the catalog and only in North America. I've appended the entire list of
item numbers below for your reference. Also, in order to qualify for the
discount, you must enter a catalog code. For your convenience, you can just
use the code "J2LUGNET". To enter the code, just go to the Shopping Cart
page (http://shop.lego.com/Basket/Basket.asp), type in the code and click
"Enter". Our apologies for any confusion.
In the future, we will be expanding this offer to include more bulk products
and more countries. Furthermore, unlike the current set up, a catalog code
will not be necessary to qualify for the discount. Hopefully, these
improvements, as well as many others we are working on, will be available soon!

As an addition to this, you will find that the discount code also applies to
the My Own Train Cars (open freight wagon, tanker, caboose etc). If you buy
5 or more and enter the code, it gives you 10% off these items.

Please, PLEASE make this available also in Germany! I would be really glad
if I could buy some of these packs (about 20) BEFORE they are sold out only
to appear on eBay in masses. Please don't sell limited supplies to be sold
out in a matter of hours but make it a continuous offer.
Thanks

The theory is that these are numbered this way because they are
"mistakes"... that is, they were put in the catalog erroneously (who would
want a red door with a green pane if there are no windows to go with it, or
a ridge tile for low slopes if the blakc slopes on offer are medium) and
both have since been "replaced" with other parts that make more sense that
have more normal numbers. But these parts were run off and hence need to be
sold.
Wasn't the trans light blue 1x4x3 thinwall (which they listed as a "train
window" at first) also numbered with a B for a while? I forget.

Yes, initially there were 5 B00x parts. The 1x4x3 thin wall (except it
was the clear one which was B001, and the 1x4x5 window with trans light
blue glass (B002) have become normal parts.
B004 and B005 the red and black low slope peaks are both still in the
catalog. I didn't see B003, the doors, in the latest catalog.
Here's a post from Mike Walsh which notes this change:
http://news.lugnet.com/general/?n=31466
And here's a post which lists the five mistakes.

I hope this will happen verry soon. I'm waiting on it to place my new order.

Not only Germany, but around the world, so that our Aussie friends can have
there chare of the cake too!
How shall we notice it when the discount counts for other countries other
than the USA?

Has this discount code been discontinued? I tried it this morning and found
it didn't work anymore, but it did work for me a few days ago.

It appears to be working for me. Did you enter in the catalog code
