Great article! Few, if any, negative connotations toward adult builders. Are
any of the people mentioned on LUGNET? It's unfortunate that, while mentioning
the online community of LEGO fans, the author didn't give any pointers to
specific URLs...

The group referred to is LUGola, I assume (the Los Angeles based LUG
Henry has started). Craig and I are 2500+ miles away in DixieLUG.

Actually, "Dixie" is in reference to banknotes issued in Louisiana with "dix"
(French for 'ten') on them. This actually predates Mason and Dixon by several
decades.

Originally, yes, I believe so (Dixie is a reference to the Dixon part of the
Mason-Dixon Line, IIRC). However, Maryland does not consider itself "Dixie",
nor does Virginia, AFAIK. To me, "Dixie" refers to Georgia and Alabama,
mostly.

Virginia is part of "Dixie" while West Virginia is not. thus the reason for the
division of Virginia.

LOL, I think the term "Dixie" is kind of watered down now days any ways. I
think the city of Atlanta almost doesn't consider itself part of "Dixie",
while the rest of Georgia is. I think many people still think that if one
says they live in "Dixie" that they must drive a big orange car with welded
doors, numbers on the side, rebel flags on the roof and a horn that plays
"Dixie" and still drive on dirt roads. But of course if that meant all the
women wore those cut off "Daisy Duke" shorts, then sign me up!
Basically DixieLUG is for people who live in the southeastern region of the
country. The past two meetings have been in Macon Georgia, thus making it a
fair distance for people from Alabama, Tenn, SC, FL and even Atlanta. It
would probably be a little much for people to be expected to attend from as
far away as Arkansas, Mississippi and Virginia but I'm sure they'd all be
welcomed if they wanted to participate.
Just my opinion, I'm sure some of the founding DixieLUG members might have
some different ideas.

Well technically the eleven Dixie states were Alabama, Arkansas, Florida,
Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee,
Texas and Virginia.
Being a native of Georgia I've never really considered Florida or Texas to
be "the south" they're always kind of in their own little category.
As far as the DixieLUG, there are members from Georgia, Alabama, and
Tennessee, so far.

Yes, I read LUGNET. And the "club" referred to is LUGOLA (LEGO User Group of
Los Angeles)--the other two attending members being Dave Johann and Rick
Kujawa.

Yes, I agree. I mentioned LUGNET to the writer, as well, I was contacted due
to his reading of my posts, specifically concerning LUGOLA.
