Actually, "Dixie" is in reference to banknotes issued in Louisiana with "dix" (French for 'ten') on them. This actually predates Mason and Dixon by several decades. -Cheese (...) (24 years ago, 24-Apr-00, to lugnet.org.us.dixielug)

Well technically the eleven Dixie states were Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia.
