   1. As it was said in a recent thread in the Classic-Castle forums about Harry Parter (funny picture was involved, no minifigs were actually hurt), LEGO could be taking the time in Harry Parter... err Potter to recharge their thinking, to ressurect castle after the recent Castle themes, to start over.

I think this is most probably. However, leaving Juniorization can only happen if TLG expects it’s target audience to be patient enough to build a detailed model. For us, thats the prime reason to buy a set, but for most kid fans, it’s playing with sets. That means the time between opening the set and having it built needs to not be too incredibly long. I know that was the concept behind the HP line.

However, with the “Big Three” Legends - it shows clues that TLG thinks their target audience will accept the older, more intricate/detailed, sets. This bodes well for a new theme.

Something Ive heard is that TLG only has the Potter theme for another year or so, which raises real questions about whether the license will survive. I know another HP movie is in the works... But where we’ve already heard about the January releases for Trains and SW - no new sets for HP -- maybe they’re more hush-hush.. but...

   2. After reading the whole of Brad’s talk the other day, I began to wonder if LEGO’s love of licenses and partnerships might cause them to form one for castle. However, I just can’t think of what they might license for themselves. I mean, LOTR would be an obvious choice, but Intelliblock (or whatever it was) already has the LOTR contract, unless they cancelled it do to sales. I don’t know... Dragon Riders of Pern? Braveheart? I just don’t see this thing happening.

The problem with LOTR and Braveheart is how grotesquely violent they were. I mean, would you want your 1- yr old kid buying toys meant for a R-rated movie? Basing it off a book is that it only appeals to fans of the book, which is not a large group (i’ve never read the Pern books, for example).

Altho, I’d love to see them do sets based off other famous books.. perhaps Tolkien’s The Hobbit.. the story is much more kid friendly, popular due to the movies, and I’m sure the Intellibricks licence only applies to the movies.

However, I really suspect an original theme more than anything else.

But I don’t suspect it will be free-form, like what we’ve expect from classic castle sets - I read the interview with the creators of the Orient Expedition Theme - and they spoke about how they developed a story, and then sets that told that story. I suspect something like this will be how they approach all their themes from now on (except trains).

   3. Or finally, LEGO has so loved the Harry Potter line, and since they view it as ‘castle,’ that they don’t view LEGO Castle as dead or dormant as we do, and thus any questions regarding Castle is answered while referring to that line.

I don’t think TLG confuses HP with Castle - they just know the two would compete. But not such a direct competition like SW and Space - otherwise they would never have given us the Big Three Legends.

I know that this is an old issue, but it would be nice if TLG took a role as industry leader and worked against the I-want-everything-spoon-fed-now attitude running rampant through the child-marketing industries.
