And so LCadville is born! See
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Fields/1864/lcadville.html for its humble
beginnings.
The idea is this:
Anyone who designs a town building and models it in LDraw can have their own
plot in LCadville. After a .dat file is posted to lugnet.cad.dat.models, I
will periodically add it to the town layout and run a new POV scene. Requests
for specific placement will be honored to the extent I can.
Keep in mind that LCadville is a smallish town at this point, so no
skyscrapers need apply.
Anyone who submits a house may also submit a vehicle for their driveway.
Buildings should be submitted without a baseplate, but landscaping is welcome.
I'll be working on a way to identify the owners of individual buildings in the
town.
So let's see those town buildings coming! In addition to houses, LCadville is
in need of all the basic buildings a town requires, i.e. city hall, general
store, school, bank, post office, etc.

Maybe every once in a while, building placements can be changed to more logical
positions (i.e. zoning) if need be.

I've started work on a shopping center modeled after the Woodmoor Shopping
Center near where I live. I also have plans to make some more houses using
details from houses near me.
Do you want us to make buildings with all walls? Or is it okay to leave off
the walls that allow for interior accessability?
Jeff
P.S. I'll modify my house slightly to include some of the features I left off
in the version I posted.

Does that mean that if I make a police station I can make a police car? Or if I make a school I can
make a school bus?

Cool, John!! I'll provide the fire station, after all no town is complete
without a fire station. :) I have one built IRL, so maybe I'll just go
ahead and LDraw it. I might also try to do my own house.
The Fire Station would take up two 32x32 plates, and I could
probably get the house on a 32x32, so save at least two side by
side lots for me.
This is going to be so cool once it progresses. :-)

What's the best way to make a hill work in a town layout? I'd like to try it,
maybe a river, too.

Mostly I'm wondering how to get roads to it. Is there a 32 X 32 road
baseplate with a sloping road?
I suppose I could just rotate a regular road plate so that it slopes, but that
messes up the grid. Maybe just stick the house on a CRAPP? (grins, ducks,
and runs)

Without the duck & run, that's not such a bad idea... you could do that, and
then "build out" the CRAPP with bricks so that it looks less, um, crappy.
Or, some ambitious fellow could ldraw a sloped "roadplate" by building it out
of grey, green and yellow sloped bricks.

You could create a nonexisting piece to make a hill.. (hides from purists) Oh
by the way, could Lcadville use a Disco? I was thinking it was finally time for
me to download LDraw this weekend, and a I have been planning a Disco as a
warmup project for a while. Besides, it must get boring having church as an
only option for "going out." Also, I have a suggestion. I think the town would
look better if you added some shrubery and trees and stuff, because the town
sort of looks like it was built on a big parking lot. Just my opinion, but I
think it may look a little better if there was some grass. But, the entire
thing is the greatest and is a really groovy idea! Keep up the good work, to
you, as well as all of the contributors!

I wanna see how you make a disco ball. :) Greg, Can the disco have an '80s
night and an Anime Music night? :)
That reminds me: Anyone know if Pov-Ray can include image files? Like a jpeg

I just open the dat file in Notepad *1)
Then select all text in it, copy and paste it into the message.
*1) I have created a shortcut to Notepad in the C:\Windows\SendTo directory (at the
same time as I deleted the options I never use). Then I can just right-click on any
text file, pick Send to - Notepad to open, view and edit that file.

I was thinkin' along the lines of a 1x1x1 with studs on five sides covered with
2x2 radar dishes, but I'm not sure how it would look. I'm going to try
different variations on it during the holiday weekend and hoeplully get it (the
whole thing)posted to .dat by Monday.

I was planning an 80s night all along :) An anime music night wouldn't be bad
either. I love the theme from Evangelion!

That reminds me: Would it be all right if I used non-conventional colors? I
want to do the windows trans-purple.

Who is on the zoning committee? You will need a zoning committee to keep
factories away from housing, etc. You *DO* have zoning, right? :)

Elementary zoning, yes. Along the lines of a small town square, with
municipal and commercial buildings on the square, more commercial buildings
along a Main Street, and residential off to the sides. Factories may be a
problem if they come in before the residential and commercial areas have
developed. I hate to stick a factory way off in the boonies.

From the web interface, just click new message or reply and there will be a
small text box below the main window. Click the browse button that is located
next to it, select the file, click post message, and you're all done! :)

Use Lugnet's web-interface to post DATs. There's a "upload file" button
provided. You just click the button, navigate to the correct file, and it
gets uploaded along with the message.
Easy, and you don't have to worry about messing with your line-length
setting (to avoid line wraps).

Nope, not Star Wars. Something else. ;) Although I wouldn't mind plugging

What about the gold Insectoids dome? It'd only be a hemisphere tho...

You mean a color that is not available? There really isn't anything stopping
you, but I'd prefer colors that are available. What about Trans Red or Trans
Orange?

Cruel Angel Thesis (opening) or Fly Me to the Moon (closing)? Personally I
like the version of Fly Me to the Moon sung by Megumi Hayashibara. I heard it
on a CD so I'm not sure which episode(s) are closed with it. I haven't seen
the Entire series yet. :(
I picked up "The Best of Anime" CD a couple days ago at Tower Records. Other
than the first three tracks and the last track, it is very good. They had it
at a listening station so you can sample it if you find yourself at a Tower
Records. :) Email me if you want to know more about the CD.

Umm, actually, I have never seen it, I've just heard the song (and in MIDI
format, even!!) I am sort of into anime, but I think I like manga more.
