Hi all,

I have been very impressed with the talent of everyone here, and it
inspired me to do a bit of animation with the models you all have uploaded.

I am a mechanical engineer who moved on into computer animation in 1989.
I currently use MAX 2.5, so I downloaded Duane's model, converted it with
DAT2DXF (thanks for the pointer Bram!), and then pulled the file into MAX.
In MAX, I have to reassign colors and materials, and then define links and
motion.

The link below will download a 626KB MPEG animation. I had to crunch the
heck out of it for it to be of reasonable size. It's still viewable though.
I now have another way to enjoy my Lego habit!

That is great!  Very nicely put together.  But there's no contact
information, and I've got some debris which needs to be removed!

Wow!  Great concept and implementation.  The music is perfect.  I love how you
made the tree fall, hit the back side, turn, and fall into the truck.  I
wonder if we'll ever see brown trees from TLG.

I look forward to seeing more of these.  Put a few together on a web page and
you get my nomination for CLSOTW.

P.S. lugnet.cad (and lugnet.general) would be the appropriate place to post
this, as only .dat files should be posted to the .dat groups.

I took some liberty to put a "dead" tree in the scene. Probably a
Lego-knockoff tree.

I am hoping to convert a few more of the great models I see here and put
together a larger scene. Maybe something along the lines of the town being
discussed under the "House with Porch" thread. As long as I do not have
raytraced reflections, the scene will render fairly quickly.

Maybe we can show TLG how well organized and creative the LDraw community
is. Now, of course, we need to be able to buy the parts we need to actually
build some of these creations;>)

Thanks! I hope I have a future! The animation business is going pretty well.
I do get a bunch of local commercials and corporate video stuff. It's just
nice that my career choice can now be blended with my Lego habit!!!

Any suggestions for the NEXT animation (models request??)?

He stands...like some sort of...PAGAN GOD or DEPOSED TYRANT.  Staring out

by looking at him...that he's got some PRETTY HEAVY THINGS ON HIS MIND.

Have you found the pirate sword yet?  If not, I could try to find one an whip
up at least a good mock-up for your .dat file.  I'd love to see an animation
of the droideka rolling, opening, then firing.  Oooo, and a shield should be
doable in POV, too.

Wow, cool!  :-,  Note that I've modified the head since I first posted it;
I've re-posted the standing Droideka with the new head, but not the rolling
one.  I'll do that when I get home tonight.

Actually, I think I'll e-mail you the entire, ZIPped model with sub-parts
and everything.

Have you found the pirate sword yet?  If not, I could try to find one an whip

That would be extra keen, John!  The minifig knives bring the model down to
minifig-scale, but they don't look as *nice* as the pirate sword.

I'd love to see an animation

Mmmmm shield...  Uuuuuu*gurgle*uuuuuu  :-,

Best way to get it to me is to do the following:

    1. Any "odd" parts should be sent in DAT format. It seems the convertor
I am using will stop if it encounters a missing or bad DAT part.

    2. If you do get the swords made, go ahead and insert into the model and
ZIP it to me.

Shields are pretty easy in MAX. I am currently working on Bram's Colonial
Viper (my personal fav!). Battlestar Galactica was my favorite show as a
kid.....

The droideka is now in my system, too, and looks good.

If you are interested, check out the JPG of Ian Warfield's transmission. I
am a Technic guy (surprise).
