Tore,
The variants of the shutter window you describe have been discussed before:
http://news.lugnet.com/general/?n=22254

The rest of that thread is also interesting in regards to classic windows.

Hope that helps,
Clark

Thanks - I had forgotten about Gary Istok's dissertations on the subject of
Classic Windows.

Regarding 646 (1x6x2 with Shutters)<QUOTE>
Here is what I have (with counts in parethesis):

Full Stud windows with sills (and 2 small holes on top):
#1 -- CA   1957 windows are "half pane" -  (4)

Hollow Stud windows with sills (and 2 small holes on top):
#2 -- CA   1958-64 windows are "half pane" - (23)
#3 -- CA   1968-64 windows are "full pane" -  (14)
#4 -- ABS 1964-71 windows are "half pane" - (55)
#5 -- ABS 1964-71 windows are "full pane" -  (9)

Hollow Stud windows without sills (and without 2 small holes on top):
#6 -- ABS 1972-80 windows are "full pane" -  (25)
</QUOTE>
We don't discriminate between CA and ABS, so #2=#4 and #3=#5. I also think the
that window pane size can be classed as non-functional, but that we should model
an actual combination, so I will make 646ac01 and 646bc01 with the narrow glass
and 646cc01 with the full-width glass.

So, in summary
#1 = 646ac01
#2,#3,#4,#5 = 646bc01
#6 = 646cc01

This thread also seems to confirm 39cc01 1x1x1 hollow studs, short ledge, glass,
and 33b / 33bc01 (thanks to Frank Filz).

Reference page updated, but I still need to generate DAT files and images for
the larger parts to represent the varients and improve / BFC those in the
official library.

Chris

The images for the proposed 646 (1x2x6 with Shutters) varients are now on the
reference page.

Following the naming scheme discussed here, the full set of LDraw files for the
classic windows and their glass from 1x1x1 up to 1x6x2 has now been posted to
the Parts Tracker. Please see the review summary
<http://www.ldraw.org/cgi-bin/ptreviewsummary.cgi?f=classicwindows>
which should help to manage the review process. I'd like these to be issued as a
batch.

Chris,

Thanks for continuing work on this ‘project’. Actually, I appreciate everyone involved in this effort.

You mentioned discussion of a naming scheme. I don’t see (in this thread) where that was discussed. If you could point me in the right direction to (re)read that discussion, I’d appreciate it.

In the meantime, I’d like to propose a change to the names to better (IMO) balance readability and LDraw’s limits and standards versus the need for accuracy and precision. See the table below.

I will say right away that I don’t know that my proposed names are optimal -- my choices were driven (somewhat) by ‘doing the least amount of damage’. I do feel the newer names are a step in the right direction. Just maybe not the best step.

I made the following alterations:
  1. Expanded ‘(Compl.)’ to ‘(Complete)’.
  2. Moved ‘Classic’ to follow the dimensions, instead of preceding them.
  3. Changed ‘Ledge’ to ‘Sill’. ‘Sill’ seems to be an accurate label for the feature in question. If ‘ledge’ is actually a better term (I’m not an expert on window nomenclature), then we should stick with ‘ledge’.
  4. Replaced ‘S/Studs and L/Ledge’ with ‘Solid Studs’, as the solid stud is the identifying feature of these variations.
  5. Replaced ‘H/Studs and S/Ledge’ with ‘Short Sill’, as the short sill is the identifying feature of these variations.
  6. Replaced ‘H/Studs and L/Ledge’ with ‘Long Sill’. This abbreviation is definitely arguable, because unique identification of these variations requires mention of both stud type and sill width.
  7. Changed ‘with Shutters’ to ‘Classic Shuttered with...’.

(Details snipped)

By naming scheme, I meant file-naming scheme. I didn’t detect that the descriptions were too long unitl I tried to post them to the Parts Tracker, and wasn’t that happy with how I ended up abbreviating them. At a first glance you suggestions look OK. I’ll take another look and fix them.

Thanks, Chris
