Hi everybody!
Earlier today I was inspired to build a 4-wide 1962 VW Microbus, after
seeing pictures of a 6-wide model by Sven Moritz Hein.

Since a few people have posted with questions about some of my building
techniques, I also included a few photos of how I did some of the more
unique aspects of the VW's design.

Construction of the diagonal-color ''hood''

The whole thing took about 3 hours to build, half of which was spent playing
with various versions of the front. I finally settled on the design you see
here, even though it meant I didn't have a great way to attach the
headlights. ...I included headlights in only one of the pictures, here.
(They look OK from the angle that the photo was taken, but were really very
low, and made the facade rather goofy-looking.)

and door parts, B-)
But I can't stop expressing my admiration for V-hood design,
this time.

I usually need to avoid the pre-fab door parts and other things because
they're often a little too big for my designs. Most of the things I have
been building lately have been "Not Quite Minifig" scale (NQMF?) :) They
look OK with a Minifig standing next to them, but in no way could ever
accomodate a real minifig. My whole city (work in progress, photos coming
eventually) is in this Not Quite Minifig scale, and I've had to come up with
creative ways of making doors, windows, etc. So naturally, the cars would
follow along with the same idea.

Awesome! I'd love to see it! If you need any more details about how I did
the hood, let me know and I can show you more.

Actually, it's not... it's "regular red". The photos came out a little dark
and a little contrasty and I was wondering if someone was going to think it
was dark-red. :) I considered messing with the color before I uploaded
photos, but I opted to just leave it be. :)

That rocks! Where are the surfboards?
Seems like there's a mini-land scale microbus at Legoland California -
anybody got pics of that one?
