I got a chance to meet up with Jonathan last night and he took me back to his
place... not to look at his etchings but rather at his town/train layout. I took
lots of pictures.
- A fire station (one of many)
- Ya but where were they when you needed them?
- Cracks in the foundation let the plants grow out.
- Half a car, trains in the cut, back alley goodness
Some major eye candy for town/train fans ...

I like the burned out buildings and general gritty NYC neighborhood/”ashcan”
look he’s been able to achieve with this layout even if it’s not quite “done”
yet... There were some things I was not permitted to photograph because they are
not yet revealed (jawdroppingly great) entries for Ondrew’s town contest.
Hopefully we’ll be seeing lots more of this layout!

Wow!!!! This layout is truly inspirational. Between Ondrew’s and yours we’ve got
wonderful nature and wonderful urban nature. Fantastic!
Thanks Lar for posting these pictures too. There are some things that need to be
seen work-in-progress and this is one of them. I also notice a lot of cars in
the background. Desperately looking forward to seeing more of this.

Sometimes I don’t know ‘when’ to take pictures. You know, how far along I
should be before I showcase things. Lar being in town worked out great because
I probably would have waited a long time before I took them myself.

I wish the tiles were old grey but bley works just fine. Tiled sidewalks are
the way to go in my book. Along with tiled just about everything.

I think I know what you mean. I tend to what to only photograph finished MOCs--
just a few great eye-popping shots that maximize the “wow” factor. The same for
pics of our layout. But personally, I find “under construction” pics rather
interesting in and of themselves, and so I have tried to be more “less
controlling” and snap shots of messy, unfinished scenes as well. And speaking
of, I just took some pics of my new (hmmm, dark red) building
“in situ” (lol, I just
had an idea-- I’m going to name that MOC the “HDR” building;-)
But on to YOUR layout, Jonathan-- very nicely detailed and polished work. These
are the sorts of projects that really turn my crank! With enough $$$ and the
resource of Bricklink, the sky really is the limit for creating whatever we want
(although I must chide you a bit for building with such great detail and then to
create...“6” wides????:-)
I hope you have considered portability during your construction (the first
iterations of our layouts certainly didn’t) so that you’ll be able to in
theory show them off in some sort of public exposition one day. If not, it’s
never too late to go back and change everything;-)

I think I’ve convinced him to start doing more in progress stuff... he has a
tripod already and a nice Nikon with timer, macro, and flash
control/suppression, that’s all you need.

I feel my 6 wides are slightly beefier than most. . .with the exceptions of the
subway cars which are indeed to narrow. Either way, I stil have a lot of
growing to do with building trains. After all, I am (was?)a townie, trains are
still new to me.

Yeah, I thought about portability before I constructed the tables. I decided I
was OK with a non-portable set-up. I don’t own a car and really don’t know of
anywhere I’d need or want to take things, here anyway.

i'm glad larry got down there as well. It's allways intersting to see what
others pickup when photographing others models. His pictures provided some
insite into your modeling style that you might not capture. my only wish is that
larry or someone would take a wide shot so we can see just how large this layout
of yours really is.

I'll take an overall picture or two within the next few days. I have been
running around at night like I am 15 years younger this week and have only been
home to sleep. This will continue for the rest of the week.
For now though, the layout is 8' x 16', two levels. Coming soon: elevated train
to be completed and urban canal to be in place.
