I need some clarification here...
From bricksmagazine.com:
"CHARTER SUBSCRIBERS ARE
ELIGIBLE FOR A FREE GIFT!*"
...
"* Free gift to be determined. Free gift is available only to charter
subscribers upon renewal of their Bricks Magazine subscription after
expiration of their charter subscription."
So we wouldn't get the free gift until after we get our first six issues and
then we pay more for another subscription, correct? I couldn't find on the
site how much this renewal subscription will cost. Also, you throw "6
issues!" around a lot but never seem to say how often the magazine will be
published. Is this a weekly, monthly, annual, whenever we get around to it
publication? I'm wondering if you've announced this before and I missed it,
but I can't seem to find it on your website.
Since the deadline for charter subscribers is coming before the preview
issue, I'd bet that you're going to be losing a few would-be subscribers. I
for one find it hard to pay $2.00 per issue (a savings from the $5.00 cover
price!) for a magazine that I've never even seen.

Correct.

Frankly, we haven't quite decided yet. It really depends upon the amount of
interest we see. If thousands of folks want the magazine...it'll be cheap.
If hundreds want it...it'll be expensive.
I don't wish to go into depth regarding market research and such, but you've
already done the math on the absolute most a 12 month subscription will cost
at cover price.

Second paragraph on the site, last line. Monthly. And we've announced it
before. I'll look at altering the web site to make this more noticable.
Thank you for the heads-up.

Thats a charter offer for you...save a bunch by taking a chance. If you
aren't comfortable with this, please don't purchase a subscription to Bricks
until you have an issue in your hands. We don't want to cause
discomfort...we just want to produce a great publication for the enthusiasts.
Thanks for your interest and comments,
Matt

Agreed, I was thinking the very same thing.

I can see how some might think that. And different people's budgets are
different, of course.
Mine is a lot tighter than it used to be but 12 bucks doesn't seem like a
lot of money to me, so I took a flyer on a charter subscription already.
(I spent 40 on gas to get to our weekend show in St. Joe and back.. surely
this magazine will give me 30% of that level of enjoyment... I spent 8 on a
meal after the show... the hamburger was good, but surely this magazine will
give me 150% of the enjoyment (over 6 issues) of that hamburger.... besides
it's a good thing in general to support community efforts)
That reasoning may not work for you or anyone else, but it's what I used.

I agree that 12 bucks isn't much to venture, but at the same time I'm
curious to see what the magazine will give me that I don't already get
online for free. Thus the reason for me wanting to see the first issue.
I'm hoping that it will offer me some value once I see a copy, and if I find
that to be the case (and I'm under the impression that it will) then I will
subscribe.

Matthew,
I've just printed out my order form to mail in, but I had one question. If
I had previously signed up for the free first issue, does this subscription
kick in after that, or will I get two of the first issue? If I'd get two,
is there a way to cancel the freebie just to save you a little money?

Hi Bruce -
The free offer and the subscription are two separate offers. If you
subscribe for the charter subscription, that does not affect your free
sample issue. Subscribing does not put you in for two free issues.
Thanks for the kind offer, though :-)

Is it ok to use the Bricks Magazine Logo to provide a link to the site from
my Bricklink store?

Hi, Tim!
I may have read your response wrong but it sounds like you misunderstood the
question. Is the freebie and the first issue one and the same? We
understand that they are two different offers, just want to know if both
will contain different content. If they are the same, then those of us who
intend to take on the subscription may want to save the publisher some money.

Hi Kirby -
Thanks for clarifying the question. When you subscribe, you are paying for 6
full issues of the magazine. The free issue is not a full issue, but a
smaller preview edition, with different content, designed to give you a
taste of what the full magazine will be like. We have hopes this preview
edition will become collectable, as we're doing a very limited run of them.
So, when you subscribe, you are paying for 6 full issues, which will contain
totally different content from the preview. I do appreciate your desire to
save us some money on the freebies though - thanks for taking that
community-friendly attitude towards our effort. :-)

Yes, what about us lot? We can all still pay by PayPal in US$. Up the
subscription rate to allow for postage, and we promise no bitching about not
getting a free gift...
