This post pushed me to complete the hard work of Donal Sutter and Orion Pobursky and model the missing parts of Technic Figure.

Posing the figure may be quite tricky, but thanks to the advanced rotations features of LeoCAD, it’s manageable, see the examples below.

The parts are available on LDraw Parts Tracker

Enjoy!

This is fantastic! Thanks Philo. I anticipate that a lot more renders are coming in my future.

Regarding posing, it would be great if we had an MLCAD “extra” like the Minifig Generator which would allow simple posing. I’m not smart enough to write one, but I’m sure somebody is. I know the demand for Technic figure posing is FAR less than the demands for minifig though, so it may not be worth somebody’s time, especially since the Technic fig is not even made any more.

Without a generator, I imagine a very nested MPD file which allow all the arm and leg posing. I could set up a “generic” file with the right rotation points which could then be posed.

A few questions: Accesories: I know there are models of the skis and ski pole. What about the helmet and visor? Are these available? Torso’s: There are many different printed designs for the torso. I see the “dolphin” torso in your example. What would be the best way to handle the others (assuming anyone will do them at all)? Would we make “stickers” to put on a blank torso or would we have a different torso part number for each design? Cyber: Besides the different colors of hair, there is also the “cyber”..... helmet..... thing. Any plans for that? Same for the arms. I’m not trying to be greedy, I’m just excited about the possibilities!

Thanks again Philo, Eric

A true Technic figure generator would be great indeed. While the maths are not very hard, I’m not up to the task when it comes to user interface... In the meantime, LeoCad does a great job thanks to its rotations around local axis. You still have to do numerous selections of (say) arm segments, but you may easily adjust their rotation.

Not sure to understand what you mean, since many rotation points move while you pose segments higher in the hierarchy.

I am working on helmet/visor. Also missing is the diving equipment of set 8250... these are quite complex...

Definitely a torso per pattern. There is a subpart defining the bulk of torso. creating pattern is easy (albeit tedious) with Quad2dat/Slicerpro.

Again, feasible, but tough job!

I’m just excited about the possibilities!

I don’t think it would be that hard to modify my LDDP minifig extension to include Technic figs.

Here is such a file, sent to me by J.-C. Tchang:

and a posed figure, using this file:

Once again, great work Philo, thanks. Now I just have to LDraw my crane...

Hey, thanks!

I now have (at least) one more thing to add to my ever-growing LEGO to-do list!

Owen.
