Re: Pictures from 12/01-12/02 Wilmington MA, Greenberg Show

(...) Ed, There is a lot of automation! I believe there were 5 RCX's on the layout, 4 of them controlled 4 crossing gates using some of Chris Phillips home brew "Reed Switches" (basically Reed Switches are used to detect the Magnetic couplers on the (...)   Re: Remote switching points

It really is a shame that Lego no longer makes all the nifty automated light, switch and crossing components. I first saw these in the 1980 European catalog ((URL) , which I still have :). My mom brought it over from a trip to Germany. I was stunned (...) (25 years ago, 27-Aug-99, to lugnet.trains)

Re: What is the maximum length of a single carriage.

(...) I have used 4 axles in one truck. The trick is to make the two center axles 'sideways slideable'. This is pretty easy to accomplish: the two outer axles have a tile-with-centerstud, the two middle axles have tiles in them. Now connect the two (...) (23 years ago, 1-Jun-01, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: 10183 Hobby Train Review

(...) I'm not sure what you're saying. That because Lego doesn't have a DCC system, arbitrary curve geometry, etc, that Lego doesn't *have* a hobbyist market? Here's the skinny: You've got people who don't care if we switch to a battery system, and (...) (18 years ago, 12-Mar-07, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

(...) Ben, with your rig, how does the 8866 PF Train motor compare with the 10153 motor, for various masses of loco (say no-load, kids' train load and AFOL train load)? I've tested the Emerald Night carriage with an 8866 motor and found that the (...) (15 years ago, 27-Nov-09, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

(...) Hi Dave, a blue motor housing with black base, that means a very old motor like from sets 100, 102, 112, 113 from 1966 - 1968. So it's definitely a 4.5 Volt motor. I have experienced this interesting phenomenon - luckily it occurs in a 1.5m long tunnel about 7 track meters from the controller feed point so the slower speed prevents of derailing in 'the dark hole' (sometimes!).
