There is a lot of automation! I believe there were 5 RCX's on the layout, 4 of
them controlled 4 crossing gates using some of Chris Phillips home brew "Reed
Switches" (basically Reed Switches are used to detect the Magnetic couplers on
the trains which activate the crossing lights and gates. The switches are
built into/between a 2x4 plate on top of a 2x2 plate that we connect to the
track a couple of feet prior to the crossings). The 5th RCX controls Jonathan
Dallas's Heliport, he has a button that kids press which activates a raidar
dish on top of the building, spins the rotars on a helicopter and the
helicopter lifts 4 or 5 inches off the table and lands.
The other automation is in the ammusement park, the lighthouse, and another
raidar dish. These are just controled with 9v motors either hooked to power on
a controler or a battery box.

A couple things I forgot to mention was that NELUG was mentioned in local
radio adds for the show and the show cordinator begged us several times to come
back saying that we were like "Bee's to Honey" and people loved us.
(I think its time to ask for a raise in the honorarium...)
