* tooth railway (coqwheel railway) quite good idea, easy to implement in
Lego, but there might be some problems with transferring power to the
vechile (unless it carries its own)

I've tried this one with a Technic motor driving a cogwheel and carrying its
own battery pack. It worked fairly well but I was disappointed to discover
that it was outperformed (in terms of maximum incline) by an old 4.5V train
motor using just its rubber wheels for traction! I had the problem that
cogwheel would very easily skip when a steep incline was attempted. I could
easily come up with a better mechanism but doing it in the confines of a
realistic looking locomotive is really hard.
