Re: What kind of motor comes with the 4559? —Tom Stangl
(...) 4561 Railway Express has the yellow diffuser and light brick, but the "black brick" doesn't exist - the framework the diffuser fits into is the entire engine plate. (...) 4565 has 2 "black bricks", 2 diffusers, and ONE light brick for the (...) (25 years ago, 13-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

I don't have the catalog in front of me (for the part number), but its in the spares section. Wayne G. (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: What kind of motor comes with the 4559? —Nick Taylor
Ben ... IMHO the 4559 locomotive is great! They just beg to be built with two motors ... they're just the right weight to give two motors excellent traction. Two two motor units will pull more cars than the magnetic couplers can handle! To add (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: What kind of motor comes with the 4559? —Larry Pieniazek
(...) Do you perhaps mean a different set? 4559 (ref: (URL) ) has a little tiny engine built on top of the motor unit. It's difficult to see how to give it two motors. Even the alternate steamer has only one. (oh how I long for the days when Lego (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Our one does. I have an engine are each end (toot toot {1}). But I do hate the hook-up system in these sets... stupid stupid stupid. I keep meaning to replace it with a magnetic one, and extent the back of the cab to form another cargo (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

Re: What kind of motor comes with the 4559? —Frank Filz
(...) That does follow from electrical theory. Two motors draw more current, which is going to result in a larger voltage drop over the rails (since V=IR). Of course since we don't have an ideal power supply, the actual calculation is not quite so (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

(...) a (...) This is due to the relatively light gauge of metal used in the track rails. Over a long layout they have a significant resistance.          Re: What kind of motor comes with the 4559? —Jonathan Reynolds
I have experienced this interesting phenomenon - luckily it occurs in a 1.5m long tunnel about 7 track meters from the controller feed point so the slower speed prevents of derailing in 'the dark hole' (sometimes!). I recently tried several motors (...) (25 years ago, 15-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)

No, but I use 2 MRC Tech 2 packs for power, because I find them nicer to use than the Lego ones. I had them before I had the lego trains. Don't use (...)         Re: What kind of motor comes with the 4559? —Tim Strutt
Actually, to light up the 4559, you only need the 1x2 light brick, and the 2x4 electric plate, both from 5310. I did this with my 4559. Tim Strutt 8^) (...) sure (...) 9v (...) how (...) "black (...) a (...) (25 years ago, 14-Jan-00, to lugnet.trains)
