For the upcoming TexLUG display at the Healthy Baby and Child Expo in Houston, and to make use of our club's new MichLUG designed train tables, I decided to build a sunken display module featuring my new Trestle Bridge design.   Re: LDraw Names for Monorail Parts

(...) It makes more sense for "Monorail" to be a valid CATEGORY than some of the existing ones, so I added it a while ago. The definitive list is at (URL) Chris (15 years ago, 21-Jan-10, to lugnet.cad.dev, lugnet.trains)

Re: Question about gearing Power Functions-based trains

(...) Actually, the 9V motor also had the same issue around corners, but I believe it was not caused by the required wheel slip, but by the increased friction on the flanges when they run at a (fairly large) angle to the rails on the corners. This (...) (15 years ago, 20-Jan-10, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Question about gearing Power Functions-based trains

I've noticed that because the Emerald Night's two sets of driver wheels are locked together, the engine struggles to go around corners: the outer wheels have further to turn, so the wheels slip and the engine's movement becomes jerky. Would it be (...) (15 years ago, 19-Jan-10, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.technic, lugnet.robotics, FTX)

  Re: 8 Wide Steam Trains

(...) Until you hit a curve (grin). Seriously though, going from 6 to 8 gives you an improvement in resolution of 33%, so you can get more detail in. But you'll be tempted to make it longer and the lego curves are too tight as it is. The (...) (15 years ago, 26-Dec-09, to lugnet.trains)

Big Blue 3 - Proof of Concept

So with much josh-taking-caringings and procrastination-ings and other life-thingings that get in the way of good ol' fashioned lego-buildingings, I pieced together a few monents here and there to put this together-- (URL) (image is a link) Yes (...)   Re: Converting an Emerald Night to run on 9 volt track

  Re: 8 Wide Steam Trains

Before John jumps on my post, when I said, "The larger the scale, the more parts you'll use, and the heavier it will be," I meant that as "generally speaking." Simple boxcars aren't going to be much heavier at 8- or 10-wide than at 6-wide, for (...) (15 years ago, 16-Dec-09, to lugnet.trains)

  Re: 8 Wide Steam Trains

(...) 8-wide gives you more breathing room for details, too. 10-wide even more so, but as John said official LEGO wheels don't match that scale. Also, the larger the scale, the more parts you'll use and the heavier it will be, so you need to worry (...) (15 years ago, 16-Dec-09, to lugnet.trains, FTX)

Re: Converting an Emerald Knight to run on 9 volt track

(...) Adding it to a passenger car doesn't work very well. The engine is heavy and the internal gearing is being used in reverse, which makes it very hard to push from further back. The 9V motor running at full power can't get enough traction to (...) (15 years ago, 16-Dec-09, to lugnet.trains)
