On the topic of fun, classification, and yard work, have you tried John Allens
Timesaver switching puzzle? Its very compatible with LEGO. A version I created
is available here:

The nice think about the puzzle in LEGO is that you can mark destinations with
colored bricks, then shuffle correspondingly colored bricks, and deal them out
to the cars. Then get each car to its matching destination.
