Guess what I’m about to talk... : 6wide vs 8wide! no trolling inside :-)
I was reading Jeramy’s blog and more precisely this post :

One could say the post by Jeramy is nothing really new on the 6vs8 debate. I
don’t agree, for instance the talking about converting 8 to 6 is interesting and
8widers (hi John) will not worry as Jeramy ends with saying he sticks to 8.
But I digress and what I want to underline is that sentence :
"We (the train builders group) decided from the beginning to keep the trains we
built in scale with what LEGO had already produced in the past, which was, for
the most part, 6 wide trains."
Let me first say I perfectly support their choice which is IMO logical for the
project they were dealing with. (and from what I know, the set is going to be a
huge success).
But I have a dream. I’d like to buy 8-wide trains (or even 10 but not more) from
TLC. Kind of "Desginer Trains" theme. Kind of trains that could be sold without
tracks and motors, just to be displayed on a shelf as a static model. Kind of
sets AFOLs could convert themselves to run them on tracks. Maybe these sets
could be sold quite well to "regular" railroad modelers the same way TLC sells
sets to non-AFOLs SW fans.
Well,
It’s a dream, maybe I should simply buy custom kits from AFOLs, and what I want
to say is that I’m not sure it’s only a niche as Jeramy wrote.

| (...) [...] (...) I'd like to add, that we made certain that 8-wide trains could be built using 10183. There are enough black plates (4xN and 2xN) and black 2x8 technic plates to built a decent sized 8-wide base. Also, one builder did build an (...) (18 years ago, 13-Feb-07, to lugnet.trains)
