I wondered the same thing when I saw the pictures.  As near as I can tell, I
expect you can.  Either end to end or side to side should work.

That was the first thing I tried when I got my hands on one. Yes, you can
certainly join two either end to end or side by side.

There will need to be a very slight modification of the hinge brick (the
kind that are two 1x2 bricks joined together) so that the hinge "nub" points
in, rather than out. (The nubs would conflict with each other when facing
two next to each other) I am checking to see if this mod was added to the
building instructions.
