The pilot truck pivots behind the second axle of the pilot truck and the
trailing truck pivots in front of the first axle of the trailing truck.
This makes the pivots points as close as possible to the drivers so they do
not swing so much. The weight of the loco sits on the tiles on the pilot
and trailing trucks (not the pivot points). The last five pics show the 2x3
Plates with Hole and the Technic pins used for the pivots.
And you may certainly use this approach for your designs.
