8 wide Super Chief (Kjeld was right!) —John Neal
This project came as a result of a story told by Brad Justus at BricksWest 2002. I'll explain. A while back, Brad was in Billund, and he was showing off to Kjeld the pre-production 10020. As Kjeld was "Oohing" and "Ahhing" over the model, he said to (...) (23 years ago, 27-Feb-02, to lugnet.trains) !

(...) What Brad was probably thinking, when he told that story, but didn't say was: "...and if you believe that, I've got a Galaxy Explorer to sell you"! (...) Nice. I especially like the windshield. But you're missing the portholes in the side.... (...) (23 years ago, 27-Feb-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 8 wide Super Chief (Kjeld was right!) —John Neal
(...) I actually *did* think he was kidding when he told the story, and so I asked him about it after the Q&A whether he was pulling my leg or not. Not:-) (...) Well, I did put 1x2x2 thin walls where they will go when I kit bash my 10020s.... (...) (...) (23 years ago, 28-Feb-02, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Nice job, John. This may be the first honest comparison between 6-wide and 8-wide models. Since there has been a debate on how many more bricks it takes to go to 8-wide, could you give an estimate as to how many pieces it took to build this (...)          Re: 8 wide Super Chief (Kjeld was right!) —John Neal
(...) Thanks, Andreas-- you asked for it, you got it, Toyota;-) As for brick count, well, I couldn't even guess. I did *a lot* of SNOT work which is really a lot of monkey business that drives up piece count. Comparing mine with the 10020 in a way (...) (23 years ago, 28-Feb-02, to lugnet.trains)

(...) Looks great John! Can you shed some more details on the windscreen construction? -chris (23 years ago, 28-Feb-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 8 wide Super Chief (Kjeld was right!) —John Neal
(...) Thanks, Chris. The windscreen idea came from Dan Siskind. Here is a pic from our last show of an Amtrak F45 he did: (URL) was really made possible by the advent of a new Racers piece, a red 2x4 angled plate used as a spoiler in many of the (...)         Re: 8 wide Super Chief (Kjeld was right!) —Chris Leach
(...) John it looks great.I'm sure it will be even better(not that it needs to it already rocks) when you get your 10020(s).I now look forward to my buddy Steve R.s version. By the way John again thanks for the inspiration on your tan building. My (...) (23 years ago, 28-Feb-02, to lugnet.trains)

Re: 8 wide Super Chief (Kjeld was right!) —Matt Hein
Hmmm...although I'm not much for trains, these are very interesting designs. Maybe I could try building a design similar to this for my space hover train (which is still under construction). Anyway, I like the designs. However, I would make my (...) (23 years ago, 1-Mar-02, to lugnet.trains)
