I like both the baggage and the observation cars you have designed and
built-  the observation car being my favorite of the 2.   What set has the
clear canopies for the dome?  Would the people still fit if you had the
seats facing each other?  If so I think I might like it better that way.

Yes they will.  I have one
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Speedway/2049/LegoJPG/VIA/VIA.html

which predates Mikes (I think).  It is just possible to put a small table (1x2
riser, 2x3 table) in between the 2 minifigs.  If they are centered, it would
work better than offset (the seats).

Thank you for the link to the pictures of your train.  It is a beauty!
[yellow and blue, I can almost pretend it's from Fabuland...] Your and
Mike's observation cars are quite different.  I enjoy  seeing different
interpretations of the same starting idea.   Each fits with the train it is
part of.  Is yours a tri-level?
Your engine, particularly the yellow nose is very dramatic.  Do you have a
picture or could you point me to  a link that has a picture of the FP7 of
VIA rail on which you modeled it?

take care,

Where in the line up will you place these cars?  At what point would you
think it wise to add a second motor?

That depends.  "The Canadian" was roughly as follows:
2 Engines-Crew Car/baggage-3 coaches-dome with diner-2 manor
(sleepers)-Beavertail

(depends on when...it can get a lot bigger than that, and it does change
dependant on season.  During the summer, there would be a dome car without
diner, and a separate diner car-that's how it was when I went X canada in 96
(with a separate diner).  Before that, in 94-5, the normal Novemer trains in
Ontario had the combined diner/dome)- the 2nd engine was used, IIRC, from
Vancouver-Jasper, and then from Winnipeg-(presumeably) Capreal (outside
Sudbury, Ont)

As for 2nd motor, I have 3 in my long passenger train.  2 are at the front, one
is supposed to be rear of train.  Where, depends on club cars (you cannot put a
motor under the 32L drop center cars).  The VIA train has 2, both under the
FP7A (and both now DCC).

(...) Nope, just 2 levels in the dome. (...) I can remember that the photo was taken in NB, and that it was a "FP7A"- I think it is in a gray softbound book that VIA had-I have 2 copies, but darn'd if I can find them to check. I know that really, (...) (23 years ago, 13-Nov-01, to lugnet.trains)
