Hello!

I just found this auction on eBay.de:

http://cgi.ebay.de/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1609513871
Take a look at the images. Do they look like fake?

Seem reasonable to me. My German ain't the greatest and no time to babelize
it (in MSP airport and have to dash for a flight in 5 min) but I am reading
that this auction is for the instructions only and it seems to have reached
1000 DM (but from a bidder with 0 feedback... probably fake) already.

Well, now it's closed, and simply says at the top:

Für diesen Artikel werden keine Gebote mehr entgegengenommen.
Der Verkäufer hat diese Auktion vorzeitig beendet.
Sollten Sie weitere Fragen haben, wenden Sie sich bitte an den Verkäufer.

  (Or, in Englisch:)

"No further bids taken for this item.  The seller has ended this
auction early.  If you have further questions, address them to the
   seller."

I went and looked at the bid history, which gives the explanation
why the seller cancelled all the bids:

'Erklärung: Meine Katzen haben sich heute Nacht über die Anleitungen
  hergemacht'

  (Or...)

"Explanation:  My cats pitched into the instructions tonight."
That may be a bit too literal, any Germans want to help?  I'm
not sure what idiomatic assumptions might be taken with "sich
  ueber hermachen."

I agree those look like adventurers car wheels on the loco. You know, if
they modified the mold a bit to give deep flanges on one side and not the
other, those might actually work fairly well, and that might be cheaper than
all new tooling. Friction worries me though.

What about rubber bands of some kind in the grooves?  I know they've
used Technic rubber bands around wheels before in small Technic
sets, this could be a further evolution...

Didn't LEGO® use that arrangement in their Twisted Time Train set? -Harvey

(...) Why should friction be a problem? Those wheels could slip and slide like any other - it's only if you power them you need a good grip, and then you'd probably use a standard 9V train motor, which has tyres. It would probably make a better (...) (23 years ago, 22-Jun-01, to lugnet.trains, lugnet.market.theory)
