I think that if lego is smart they wont do a 9v train set.
If they really want to get the most sales out of it they will do it as a set
that uses the train wheel pieces and such but doesnt come with track, motor etc
(to keep costs down) and get the best of both worlds, in that if they include
motorization instructions then they can get more sales of other trains for the
motor.

Let me clarify.  What I meant was, I hope they do a train, and I hope that it
runs on 9v track.  Not that it has to have track in the set with it, etc.
Not every set that Lego has produced has had power pack, etc., in it. Just that
it does run on 9v track.  Not that other set (Timetwisters/Timetravelors/or
whatever it was called) that didn't run at all.

Let me further clarify, the reason I really want this is because I model
European trains.  (and European buildings) I would really like to have a red
steam engine (Hogwarts Express engine was red), and European passenger cars.

I agree.  I try to model British steam trains, and I'd love something like
this - particularly without the cost of more track and another controller!

One issue - perhaps someone knows the answer - is the Lego Harry Potter
series licensed from the books, or from the film version?  If it's related
to the film, you might see a decent translation of this 4-6-2 in roughly the
maroon colours of the London Midland and Scotland (LMS) railway, as per this
trailer.  (Though the engine seems to have a few fancy bits of fibreglass
attached.  Even engines have make-up departments in Hollywood it seems).

lol  What is interesting about this engine is that it closely resembles James from
TtTE, which my son and I have already modeled:

It appears that a few modifications and one would have the Hogwarts Express
engine...

lol I was curious to see what engine James was based on so I went to the TtTE
website, and you aren't even allowed to view it unless you download flash 5!  Talk
about cheek (I wonder if that was Thomas' idea;-)

If
however the license is tied to the books only, and the delays in release are
simply 'convenient' for the film's release, you could get any old small
'cartoony' train, so long as it's red.

(Note: this is assuming Lego make one at all, which I'm not).
