Here in Australia, Lego Trains are a joke. Seeing this thread made me register from my Work PC. The newest Offering from Lego (the blue thing that isnt sure of what it is exactly) costs RRP of $350 from Lego themselves, the cheapest I've seen is on (...) I don't imagine that you would manage to build a hump yard except on a 'special' table, so the mounting wouldn't be impossible, but they would work OK I think for use as retarders. (...)
