I am designing a RCX controlled Level Crossing, it used two pairs of light sensors/lamps to detect train, and use another two pairs of light sensors/lamps to detect truck/car on the road it crossed rail, RCX will control level crossing down or up (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jun-01, to lugnet.trains)

Well, maybe not the *final* version, but a much more solid version! I have finish the newest revision of my custom modern locomotive. (...) The simplest way is to use a reed switch under the track to pick up the magnetic couplers. I haven't tried this method but it shouldn't give you any problems. Reed switches are a little hard to come by though (in my recent experience). The (...) (23 years ago, 6-Jun-01, to lugnet.trains)
