System-Buff needs help on his first Technic-MOC

Hi folks,
have a look at my water-tower:

This is my first MOC using also Technic-Parts. To be honest I feel quite uncomfortable with all this connector- and axle-stuff, but
unfortunately there is no way in making the structure with regular system bricks by keeping the woody touch. The major problem are
the 2 plates 1 x 8 in red. I'd like to use the plates at the first level the way I used them at the second level. It also seems that
the whole thing don't fit in properly when I start building the tower outside MLCad. Any ideas? I would appreciate any help.

| (...) (URL) the lower end of the red 1x8. Add this part: (URL) the upper end of the red 1x8. Connect this part where there is "blank" axle between the brown connectors. Run the axle through the axle hole of the #6536 connector, and point the smooth (...) (22 years ago, 4-Mar-03, to lugnet.technic)
