I am leaning this way. I think even the little extra load of the clutch attached
to the monorail switch might prevent the monorail train from operating it.
My switch is adapted from Guido Heunen's (http://news.lugnet.com/trains/?n=18722
-- thanks Guido!) in that I have an 8t gear meshed with a rack which is snapped
to the manual switch lever. I've found the just the 8t and its axle adds
noticable friction when the switch is driven by the train. So I'll probably take
your suggestion and pull the 8t off the rack when not in use. I hadn't thought of
spring-loading it--that could simplify the mechanism :)
