I understand why compressors using large pumps are still around - many
people simply don't have the little ones. Whereas they are likely to own
the large pump which comes along with the Technic pneumatics sets
(except 8868 which includes a small pump motorized compressor). So a
page has been done up for them at:

I actually did not known of the existence of the small pump at all until a
couple of years ago and used to think that the large one was the only
option. (the 8868 Airtech Claw Rig was not properly advertised in the US and
I didn't hear about it until 2000) However, there is a pack of two available
on the Dacta website for $10; I ordered one of those a while ago.

By the way, here is the setup I am using at the moment. Does this look any
good to you?

It is really two compressors since each pair of pumps has its own motor, but
the geartrains are interconnected. I have set it up so that the pumps on
each side have alternating strokes (so to reduce the load on the motors at
any one time) and all together they execute their strokes at 1/4 revolution
intervals. I used this kind of setup mainly due to space constraints though
and there are probably better systems out there, but it works pretty well.

(...) Er, it's hard to tell just by looking at the picture. Besides it's kinda dark and blurry. I see a lot of gears (linking the two motors?) and can just make out the 4 small pumps. How about separating the two motors so you get two independent (...) (22 years ago, 23-Nov-02, to lugnet.robotics, lugnet.technic)
