Sorry, but Bah!

1) We all have the same limitations to work with here - it's part of the
challenge.
2) We all have the same limitations to work with here - it's part of the
challenge. :)
3) LEGO makes and sell toys, nothing more, nothing less.
4) As such it has to be designed in a certain way and I'm sure the engineers
at LEGO made the best motor they could within a certain price range and
"safeness" for kids.

But ranting is fun too, and while we're wishing for a redesigned motor my
prio 1 is a stronger motor, not geared down further, just more power. My
biggest concern with any given application is to get enough power in the
movement and still get a nice feeling of speed. They could look in the RC
car market and see what motors are used there. As a toy for kids the motors
would be too expensive and dangerous (a lot of ampere and probably brick
melting heat). Still, a strong nice motor and a "LEGO" battery pack and
charger would rock my world.

I see an axlehole would have made more sense but since it's not there it
probably means there was not room for one. We will never know since LEGO
never tells why they did things in a certain way.

To overcome this limitation you can always move the motor one stud to the
side and use an 8 tooth gear or simply use the micro motor that's
considerably smaller (with performance there after). Or redesign the whole
thing from the motor down instead of the other way around...

I've often wondered why it was that LEGO decided, when making their technic motors, to have them with such a ridiculously short axle that you almost ALWAYS will need to use an axle joiner to extend it. What would have made more sense (at least to (...) (22 years ago, 26-Oct-02, to lugnet.technic)
