Well I for one wouldn't describe the two new models as 'unimpressive' those
power puller tyre's certainly give the vehicle presence.

I also like the green colour and the styling.

To be totally honest I don't get the whole hype about the new technic sets
(the two off-road cars). I mean, what's so great about them? First of all
they're cars: by now the most boring kind of set as everything's been done
over and over again.

I think they've actually managed to create an interesting car for once.

They -or at least the big one- will be 4x4: 4 wheel drive and suspension,
and steering on 2 wheels. Oh, and it'll have a gearbox. Anything we haven't
seen on 8880?
As for the rest of the set: big wheels. So? V8 engine. Again? The chassis
looks like a bunch of regular beams (at least that's a relief) but the rest
is all panels and tubes.

Your right but we always complain about panels and tubes, what can you do?

Looking at the front view of 8465 I get this terrible feeling we're gonna
get yet another steering system with specialised parts, which isn't
something that makes me cheer....

I'd like to see more new parts you could use to develop powered steering but
which we're generic enough to have other applications.

So while Duq is right in the whole (we want vehicles with more functions and
more beams) I happen to like these particular sets although I wouldn't buy
them for parts only show.

(...) A pneumatic valve akin to the average power steering cylinder would be nice. Or even one like the valves on steam engines. Something which isn't too hard to switch & has a very small "dead centre", so you can use it for feedback control. ROSCO (23 years ago, 22-Jun-01, to lugnet.technic)
