  Re: Gear train friction?

(...) The length of one axle is normally slightly shorter than a corresponding beam, ie. an axle #4 is slightly shorter than a 4 stud beam. So this is probably why you achieve some slack when putting bricks on either side of the axle to support it. (...) (25 years ago, 5-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Strange anomalies in 8460 and 8868...

(...) I noticed this too. The reason being is that-- to my knowledge-- the picture displayed is just a mirror image of another photo. I don't know why they would do that though. I can't say much as to your 8868 anomaly, as I don't know much about (...) (25 years ago, 5-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Strange anomalies in 8460 and 8868...

I was just looking around at various pictures of the 8460 (Pneumatic Crane Truck) and 8868 (Airtech Claw Rig) sets, and noticed a few strange things... All the pictures I have seen of 8460 (including the box and Brickshelf scan) appear to have the (...) (25 years ago, 5-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Does anyone have the Comborider instructions?

I want the instructions for the big RoboRiders, but they can apparently no longer be found at lego.com. I tried to load the smaller riders, but they are all one big error. Are these on brickshelf or anything? (25 years ago, 5-Dec-00, to lugnet.general, lugnet.technic, lugnet.build)

  Re: 8457 Power Puller

I have build 2 of these machines, this is a nice set, but I have a two complaints about this set. 1. the flex stearing system does not respond good. 2. the mechanisme to transfer the motor to the wheels is a sloppy, there are 5 chains with each 16 (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: Gear train friction?

Amnon, I've also found a not in-significant source of friction is the bushes against the beams (or whatever your axle goes through). I've reduced this a bit on occasion by not using bushes to hold axles in position, but having a brick at each end, (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

  Gear train friction?

One of the tough problems in building a clock is to design a very low friction, very tall gear ratio drive. I want the spool to turn around somewhat less than once every half hour, and the escapement to turn once every six seconds, so I need around (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Chain links (Re: Clock strikes hours)

Links are a Pitsco-Dacta item, but I don't know if they ship to Australia. They are really useful for solving tricky problems, and having two different types is handy. They are expensive, however. Sometimes I use them where I need a little more (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

(...) It would appear that there are some very large mobile cranes which can have independent control of each section, but it is still done with a single hydraulic ram and appears to done under computer control. I think the operator inputs the (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: 3 Section Telescopic Crane Boom

How interesting! I've always wondered how the telescoping booms function. I originally thought the individual boom elements could be extended individually, but it appears that one of the elements control the other(s), as you've shown us. It looks (...) (25 years ago, 4-Dec-00, to lugnet.technic)
