Re: Has anyone ever tried to design a washing machine mechanism?

(...) How about a front-loading washing machine? No agitator. <PLUG> Here's something else you can do with geared-up motors: (URL) </PLUG> (25 years ago, 28-Jul-00, to lugnet.technic)

  Re: space shuttle contents

Hello, I seem to remember that the "display window" on technic boxes always show different parts, so there would not be two 24 tooth gears on display. Just some trivial info. Lars Gertsen - Denmark (25 years ago, 28-Jul-00, to lugnet.technic)

  tire question

Do any of the balloon tires use the same hub as the wide racing tire (on 8440, Indy racer, Mill. throwbot)? (In particular, it looks as though the medium balloon tire, as included in both the upcoming simple chassis and the silver wheels pack (with (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jul-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Has anyone ever tried to design a washing machine mechanism?

(...) On ours, the "fan" (disk with vertical blades) at the bottom turns with the agitator one way and spins freely the other way. Also, the agitator turns further in the direction where it pulls clothes down, such that overall, it turns in that (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jul-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Has anyone ever tried to design a washing machine mechanism?

(...) I never hooked up a motor to it (mainly because the only motor I had at the time was in use in another model), so I don't know for sure, but IIRC it didn't involve much torque, once I tweaked the bushings to keep the gears meshed without (...) (25 years ago, 28-Jul-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Has anyone ever tried to design a washing machine mechanism?

(...) Duplo set 2983 includes a barrel that's about 6 studs in diameter by 9 or 10 high. You'd need to drill the bottom for the agitator axle, but I think that's only a "venial" sin among purists, compared to introducing a "foreign element" ;-) (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-00, to lugnet.technic)

Re: Has anyone ever tried to design a washing machine mechanism?

Hmmm - but that was hand-cranked. Did you try applying a motor to it, and see if it could take on the same amount of torque? Rotational speed isn't the only factor to take into account, there is also the torsional component. To make a half-decent (...) (25 years ago, 27-Jul-00, to lugnet.technic)
