Straight currency conversion does not account for many things that have a
significant impact on price:
1. VAT. So far, we've managed to avoid that evil, and it's been noted to
account for a substantial amount of the price the Europeans have to pay. We
don't.
2. Cost of living. The more the truck drivers and stockboys and cashiers get
paid to deliver the set into your hands, the more that gets added to your final
cost. I can't say how that works across the rest of Europe, but I can tell you
for a fact that this has an impact on UK prices.
3. Economy of scale. The United States is a single nation that's roughly the
size of western Europe (as defined post-WWII, not the modern UN definition),
with about as much purchasing power. We have a few large store chains that
cover that entire region, and their price negotiations dictate the prices that
the entire US pays. Compare that with Europe, where individual nations have
their own local chains which have to negotiate on a much smaller scale, and
which therefore are unable to secure wholesale prices that match or beat what
Walmart is able to dictate in the US.
Is it fair? Well, that depends on which side of the pond you live on, and
whether you're the consumer or the retailer.

| I know at another very large toy company that there is a person who comes up with the price of a toy (fulltime employee(s)!). It does not always have to do with the actual cost in creating the product. There has always been a suspicion that Technic (...) (14 years ago, 12-Aug-10, to lugnet.technic)

| (...) If it's any consolation, Canada still gets the shaft in both cases. (...) Canada Price $250 (...) NOT SOLD IN CANADA! (I bought mine through a parallel importer at $220) Is it fair? Heck no! (14 years ago, 31-Aug-10, to lugnet.technic)
