It does look like that bar peice. Nice to see TLG maintain a standard, however the linking socket must then be bigger than the standard “clip” items so that friction between the links is minimised.

It seems limiting that there is only one sprocket size....

(...) Yes the piece is exactly like you described. The bar is the standard size, and a minifig can hold it as a shield. The 2 holds are exacted 3 wide.
