and apparently the snow mobiles track is made up of a new track!

You can see it on this picture.

It appears to be five wide with two stud holes!

I wonder if it can withstand more load before snapping apart?

I’m stating the obvious but it’ll be great for crane and stuff.

Well that new “link”...

looks like its now the size of standard “bar” items... like these...

Can anyone confirm or deny that?

If so, I could see that part being used for much more, in many other builds, aside from just something that requires tread if it can clip on to many other parts.

Also, hard to tell on those pics but so the stud holes actually line up? Or are they offset? For example, could you stick a 1 by 3 plate on to it assuming the middle stud wasnt in its way?

I saw a copy of this set get built right in front of me at last night’s NELUG meeting, and I had a chance to check out those new link pieces myself. I must admit that I wasn’t testing for compatibility, but the holes are at standard stud spacing, and the connecting bar appeared to be standard “bar” dimensions.

These new links are much stronger than the old-style chain link treads, and we discussed the possibility of upgrading the conveyor belts used in several club display models to use them.

The set itself seemed pretty reasonable. For just under $30 USD, it included (just guessing here) probably about 20 - 30 of these tread pieces. The set also includes about a half-dozen (again, I wasn’t counting) of the new idler gear that is used to guide the new treads:
