Keith,
I've checked the calculations:
Length: 40ft * 304.8mm/ft / 16 / 8mm/stud
= 95.25 studs
Width: 102" * 25.4mm/in / 16 / 8mm/stud
= 20.24 studs
Height: 118.5" over roof hatch * 25.4mm/in / 16 / 3.2mm/plate
= 59 plates high off the ground
Wheelbase: 286" * 25.4 / 16 / 8mm/stud
= 56.7 studs
Front overhang: 86.5" * 25.4 / 16 / 8mm/stud
= 17.16 studs
Rear overhang: 118" * 25.4 / 16 / 8mm/stud
= 23.42 studs
Wheel Size: 305/70 R22.5
diameter: ((22.5" * 25.4) + (2 * 70% * 305mm)) / 16
= 62.4mm
width: 305mm / 16
= 19.1mm
Floor height: 15.5" * 25.4 / 16 / 3.2mm/plate
= 7.7 plates
Remember that the 40ft version of the bus is the longest one, so the wheelbase
will look long on the real bus. Have you made sure you measured between the
wheel centres, rather than the outside edges of the wheels? That's a mistake
I've made in early prototyping before.
I guess you're using barcode truck wheels for 62.4mm? I often look at vehicles
and measure them in wheel diameters. Then when I know the wheel size,
everything else fits. In this case it would look like 6.2 wheels could fit
between the front and rear wheels: ((56.7 * 8 / 62.4) - 1) = 6.2. The -1 takes
account of the wheels that are already there.
I do scale for trains (8mm:1ft) rather than trucks, but the principles work the
same. I once attempted a double-decker intercity bus with an extra steering
axle behind the powered wheels (based on 82mm wheels), but it only got as far as
the frame. I didn't have enough bricks to make the huge windows for it. The
sharp steering worked well though.

| Hi guys, I have started building a 1:16 model of the (URL) VII> transit bus (something I have not seen done so far). I took the dimensions data from the Orion Bus site, calculated the scaled dimensions in studs as so: Length 94 studs (75cm) (...) (20 years ago, 7-Mar-05, to lugnet.technic, lugnet.build, FTX)
