New Gear Boxes and Motor System!
Thank you KK Quah! Thank you TLC!!!

Oh Man! Check out the mini worm boxes and transcase!

You are welcome Eric. Although I was surprised someone
beat me to the punch. I was thinking of posting this morning
after mediation from Brickshelf but looks like its OK.
Also, I was surprised someone did not post earlier pics.
And this is the first new motor put out by TLC in who
knows how long.
My own notes on the New Motor, Trancase and Worm Box.
First, it is from set 4094 and funny thing is I got it
on impulse after seeing it on LSAH website as the pics
are so small I did not even know there was new motors
and pieces.
All the pieces are Clear so it looks very cool ! And the
geometry is all different. IMHO, its a better for
some things.
Motor is 4 studs x 4 studs x 3 1/3 brick high - a
perfect cube in Lego dimensions. Since both the top is
4 x4 studs and the bottom is 4x4 receving studs, there
could be some interesting uses for this. Also, the
Motor case has an axlehole instead of an axle protruding
so MOCs can be made flush to the motor just by using an
2 long axle.

Also, the case is clear so it really shows how small
the motor is (about 4 quarters stacked) taking a little
less than half the cube. All the rest is gearing
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=414276
Have not done any quantitative tests but qualitatively,
it looks like it is the same speed as the geared motor.
Worm Box is not really inspired as it mimics exactly the
24 tooth to worm Gearbox. Would have been interesting if
they changed the number of teeth in the New Gearbox.
However, they took out the holes on the sides of the
old gearbox and put in a more integrated structure so the
top is a centralized 2x2 stud section. The axle for the
worm section goes all the way through.
http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?i=414268
Tran Case (T joint) is the most interesting as the size
is 3 studs x 4 studs x 1 2/3 bricks high with the 2 single
studs missing on the 3 long side to form a short T.
Most interesting is it allows a Motor to drive an axle
perpendicular to the motor axis in a very small space.
The axle in the long section goes all the way through.

Overall the 3 pieces have axle holes placed at the 3 plate
from the bottom. They all integrate together with 2 long
axles so NO space between them. And all three can be combined
in a long gear train.

I made the very simple small car MOC with the motor and
trancase (connected by 3 long axle) and it looks quite
elegant especially with the clear look.

Overall, I do applaud TLC for putting out these new
pieces as that can only increase the possibilities of the
new MOCs that AFOLs will generate. First up, I smell a
crystal mini walker robot coming out of this.
Will be happy to answer questions as I see them although I
am out this weekend starting at noon.

| Nice motor and gear cases. I would like a few of them :) First I have a few question: 1. What is the small grooves beside the axelholes? If you look closly too all three pieces you will see some small grooves in the casing around the outside of the (...) (21 years ago, 31-May-03, to lugnet.technic)
