  Re: Attic Heat

(...) I've never lived in a house with an attic, but I can tell you I used to keep a gallon ziplock bag of used and abuse pieces behind the seat of my NLS's pickup truck to play with, and they were none the worse for wear, even after baking in 100F+ (...)   Attic Heat

I just completed a Lugnet post search on "attic heat" and did not read any postings that said: "Attic heat destroyed my Legos." I was wondering if our intuition tells us not to store in the attic but if in all actuality there is no hard evidence of (...) (22 years ago, 8-May-02, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Sorting strategies [was: Re: Rebel Blockade Runner . . . Holy Moly ! !]

(...) Ok, what wasn't quite so obvious was the sub-dividing you were doing. I agree that there is some modest number of global categories of parts. I'd pick a different set than your 21, but the number does depend somewhat on what you tend to build, (...) (22 years ago, 8-May-02, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Sorting strategies [was: Re: Rebel Blockade Runner . . . Holy Moly ! !]

(...) [snip inventory of huge collection] If my collection was as big as you describe, I would probably still have only 21 (or a similar number) categories. Each category might correspond to a stack of bins, though (Probably each ziplock in my (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Sorting Methods

Simian's advice was pretty good, so is Jonathan's. (...) Divide and conquer and multi-stage sorting are key techniques to huge sorting problems. (...) I haven't learned that one yet :-) Frank (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.storage)

Re: Sorting strategies [was: Re: Rebel Blockade Runner . . . Holy Moly ! !]

(...) Obviously you have a much smaller collection. Believe me, the sorting problem gets worse as you get more pieces. To get an idea, I'll try and relate how much of each of your 21 bins I have... For reference in the following, a "large tub" is (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Rebel Blockade Runner . . . Holy Moly ! !

(...) And here, I just spread out on every flat surface in my kitchen and make little piles. My apartment is only 400 square feet, almost 1/3 of which is occupied by LEGO in some form or another. Generally I make short trips between kitchen and the (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.storage)

Sorting strategies [was: Re: Rebel Blockade Runner . . . Holy Moly ! !]

(...) I don't think this is necessary for efficient sorting. I just pick out a handful of pieces of a given type, then put them in their bin, and then a handful of pieces of either the same or a slightly different type, and repeat. But then, I'm not (...)   Re: Sorting Methods

(...) I do my sorting in phases. Firstly, the setting. I sit on my couch with the coffee table in front of me. On my coffee table I have several containers to sort into (one for each category). Then I get a big glass of water, a glass of Coke and (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.storage)

  Re: Sorting Methods

(...) This is more or less the advice that I'm looking for. Basically, I have two 3'x 6' tables covered in miscellaneous parts, plus 3 or 4 3033 tubs with a variety of parts in them as well. My inclination is to divide and conquer. Split the larger (...) (22 years ago, 7-May-02, to lugnet.storage)
