Given the great differences in set quality across the entire line of
Star Wars Lego models, I don't see why there is such a big discussion
over this particular set.

Are we suggesting that the Technic stormtrooper is the only Star Wars
set available that Lego should have maybe spent a little more time on,
or that could have been improved with more R&D, newer parts, or using
more pieces (i.e bigger model, higher pricepoint)?

In fact, isn't it the case that even the best official Lego Star Wars
sets out there can be made worlds better by some AFOL?

I guess what I'm saying is -- why stop at this set?  Shouldn't we be
complaining that Lego ought not have gotten into Star Wars Lego at all,
given that none of the sets they have produced can do the "real life
thing" any justice?  Heck, even the UCS sets have glaring flaws.

For the record, I think that not only is the Stormtrooper a decent set,
creatively speaking, but it's a pretty decent facsimile of a
Stormtrooper.  Same for C3PO.  Both are way ahead of the Pit Droid and
the R2D2, IMHO.

This isn't meant to be directed at anyone in particular, but given the

It doesn't matter if anyone out here could or couldn't do better.

If LEGO couldn't do any better, they should have scrapped the model at the
planning stage.  It's an embarrassingly transparent attempt to slap • something
together, throw a Star Wars label on it, and sell it to fans.

I'm surprised Lucasfilm didn't squash it themselves.  I wonder if after • two
years' worth of releases, they weren't watching as closely this go-round.
