I agree on the race issue, however Lego has made some "people" of different
ethnicities.  There's a "black" duplo guy.  I've also seen, on more than one
occasion, a "large minifig" built out of regular Lego bricks, by Lego
employees, that was "black."  It's a double standard.

I've always seen yellow faced minifigs as "white."  Maybe this is because I'm
white, but they just seem like white folk to me.  I'd like to see some
minifigs of other colors.  They don't have to be "black," maybe Lego could use
a darker shade of yellow or something...

Also, you're right, color doesn't matter.  However, humans are different
colors, and to ignore this fact by making the figures in a childs toy all one
color is somewhat racist.  Looking at minifigs kids are bound to associate
them with their own "race," excluding all other "races."

(speaking of "race," I'd rather not.  I'd prefer to just sit back and watch.
I could never run very fast anyway.)

I would like to ask everyone a question. When was the last time you saw a
yellow human being? I have seen some WHITE white people, and some very dark
black people (yes black, because everyone who is black is not African
American), but I have never EVER seen a person who was even CLOSE to being
as yellow as a mini-fig is. So, how is this a race issue? Why would it cause
such an uproar if TLG brought out a Lando that had a yellow face? It is not
really supposed to represent lando (like a Hasbro action figure would),
because he would be the same height as Luke, Leia, Han and Vader, and the
last time I looked, they were all different heights in the movies. It is
pretend!!! Minifigs do not even have fingers, or knees, or ears... but you
want them to be black or white????

So let the little yellow guys/gals be. They are happy being brought to life
by children's imagination, and not forced into the morass that is or is not
political correctness.

Repeat after me...they are just toys, they are just toys, they are just
toys.

Chris,
I just wanted you to know that that was the most awesome post I have ever
read.  While I was reading it I heard several people humming America the
Beautiful in the background.  Excuse me, I need to wipe a tear from my eye.
If more people shared this value that color does not matter the World would be
a much better place.  Whether it is Whites complaining about Blacks or Blacks
complaining about Whites it is just plain wrong.  Just please leave it out of
a child's toy.
If only God had Legos before he created the world.
Gerry

(...) First off, the duplo-figs are different than the minifigs. They are not portrayed as yellow at all, only 'white' or 'black'. OTOH, there aren't any black *mini*figs. True, TLC created one (1! just one!) red minifig, but that was over 20 years (...) (24 years ago, 6-Jul-00, to lugnet.starwars, lugnet.off-topic.debate)

(...) It is a double standard because you choose to make it a double standard. I see NO comparison to a 6 foot tall model of thousands of lego bricks, to a mini-fig. In their Duplo line, they chose to make "races", but they have not chosen to do so (...) (24 years ago, 6-Jul-00, to lugnet.starwars)
