Yeah, I'm mainly just thankful he didn't get the role. My guess is that the
quote I heard is more or less wrong, though. Not insofar as he might have
actually said it, but that his "real" reason for turning down the movie is that
Episode I seems to be less of a box office hit than expected, and he doesn't
want to go in on a potentially risky movie. Also, Lucas is well known for his
determination: If you stay for 1 movie you HAVE to sign a contract saying
you'll do the next one (just like the long standing deal with TLG and the deal
with movie theatres on showing Episode I)... it's possible that DiCaprio didn't
want to force himself into doing Episode III if he didn't like doing Episode
II... but at any rate, the important thing is that he won't be in the movie.
That's enough for ME to want to go see it.

| (...) There might be another reason DiCaprio doesn't want to sign for 2 movies. The salary probably would not be negotiable, and presumably he will be paid much more for movies in 3 years (i.e. EP 3) than movies today. Toki (25 years ago, 28-Sep-99, to lugnet.starwars)
