The packaging of this set is interesting. The box lid opens in a way I
haven't seen before on a Lego box. Each racer is packaged in a heavy
cardboard box. The figure groupings by the pits match the individual boxes
(with the big cluster being Anakin's group).

The Technic Giant Model Set (8277) used the same type of outer box.

Oops, had forgotten about that... It also has an internal box with some
of the parts, though it is of the normal cardboard. So the box just uses
a combination of previous schemes, the 8277 lid and the other large sets
double walled box bottom.
