I just finished Sebulba's Pod. This thing is heavy. Very clever use of a
variety of parts to get something bears significant resemblance to the real
thing (at least in comparison to the Galoob Action Fleet version of
Sebulba's Pod). Lots of orange... Close to half the parts go into making
those abgled vanes. The engines are nice with lots of detail, and a clever
use of the hollow space wheels.
Nice use of tan pieces as the "invisible" parts which holdthe model
together, though the "legs" are a little goofy (it looks like they're left
off the cover photo).
One bad thing is that Sebulba is a single piece. Another irksome thing, the
pit droid's feet are not quite a 2x3 stud footprint so it would be difficult
to have it "stand" on a base plate. The "legs" use 2x2x3 tan bricks plus 2
2x2x1 bricks (would have been a tad nicer to be 5 2x2x1 bricks).
The packaging of this set is interesting. The box lid opens in a way I
haven't seen before on a Lego box. Each racer is packaged in a heavy
cardboard box. The figure groupings by the pits match the individual boxes
(with the big cluster being Anakin's group).
The Episode 1 sets are making significant use of the 1x4 dark grey tile with
"machinery" printed on it. Selbulba's pod racer uses 6 of these (2 on each
engine and 2 on the pod).
Looking at the Galoob Action Fleet sets, the pit droids would have been done
better by using the same body, legs and arms as the battle droids, and just
using a different head. It looks like they could have been done in both tan
and brown.
Well, that's all for now, I need some sleep...
