This is a long story about my failure in searching for the 2001 SW sets.
It's fairly long, so you may want to skip it, unless you enjoy this kind of
thing.

Last night I went on a search to find some of the 2001 SW sets here in
Colorado Springs, CO... I visited two of the three Walmarts we have, our
TRU, and a Zainy Brainy here's what I found:

TRU had most of the LOM sets, and most of the Studio sets.  This came as no
surprise as I had seen these there weeks ago.  TRU had the Darth's TIE +
Y-Wing by itself back at full price, no combo set.  They had two displays
setup with the LOM and Studio sets, but no 2001 SW.  I looked in the SW fig
section (where they had the 2000 sets last year) to no avail.  I searched
high and low, but I found nothing.  I got in my car and drove to one of the
Walmarts.

This Walmart had an impressive selection of the OLD SW sets, but nothing
new.  They had a HUGE stack of the Droid Developer Kits for $25, but my
money is on hold for the new sets.  I looked all along the tops of the
shelves and near the back of the toy section where they usually unload new
toys, but there was nothing.  Onto Zainy Brainy.

Zainy Brainy was less than impressive.  They had moved all of the Lego stuff
to a corner and put K'Nex into the old Lego spot.  They had a total of three
SW sets: one Droid Fighter, one A-Wing, and one Lightsaber Duel.  They had a
few uninteresting non-SW sets.  They did have the biggest selection of Lego
Soccer I've seen anywhere however...  At this point I went home disappointed.

After sulking for a few hours and working on converting my Imperial Shuttle
to LDraw, my sister got off work and had to get some groceries.  I decided
to tag along to the second Walmart.  This Walmart seems to have too much
stock of junk people don't want, and not enough stock of the stuff people do
want.  They had large palates of boxes set out, blocking aisles and making
it difficult to navigate throughout the entire store.  This gave me hope
that perhaps in the toy section there were a few boxes of new Legos... but
alas not a single box contained Lego.  The Lego aisle had most of the
standard stuff, but nothing new, nothing exciting.

I went home, head dragging, and came to the conclusion that there are no new
SW sets in Colorado Springs yet.  It's possible that one of the two Targets,
the other Walmart, or one of the other toy stores has 'em, but I doubt it.

A tragedy indeed, Bryan. Even though the SW 2001s are here on the East coast, not all WMarts have them, and those that do have a meager stock (as far as quantity). For example, I discovered upon returning to the WM that I found every new SW set now (...) (24 years ago, 7-Dec-00, to lugnet.starwars)
