I know a lot of you probably already have some of these sets,
or have read comments about them, but I wanted to put in
my 2 cents...

Personally, I like the new Mars theme. Sure bets the hell out
of things like UFO and Insectoids! Something more realistic,
and "down to earth" (a phrase I never thought I'd use to describe
something space-oriented).. :)

The modular design of the vehicles is clever, as is the
rubber-band suspension system on the trike. I've bought
most of the lower-end mars sets (everything but the
large martian 4-legged mech and the martian base).
I like the fact that the modules from both the earthlings
and the martians can be interchanged.. it implies a
certain amount of peaceful cooperation. I also find it
amusing that the martians have mechs bristling with
weapons (well, so it appears, I think the website implies
that it's all scientific equipment) and the humans have
simple exploration vehicles. :)  I also like the martians
themselves and the overall look of all the sets..

Oh, have any of you found any of the new Star Wars
sets yet? The WalMart near me had a whole bunch of
the new battle-droid transports and the "Droid Escape"
sets. I got the 3 of the escape set just for the nice source
of large dish and cylinder pieces.

Comments?

Look at the Assistant's biography on Lego.  It appears to be a small
polybag car he is driving.  Almost guaranteed to be the LOM polybag set • for
the theme.  I haven't had a chance to look at the Martian bios, maybe • they
have a polybag set as well.

All in USD.  Studios also has a few new sets that are almost polybag. • One
is a camera man, the other is titled: "Flying Stunt Man" (really cheasy
set).  Who else thinks that picture on Lego.com is a new LOM polybag • set?

The picture is the alternate model for LoM 7310 'Mono Jet' - it comes in • a
small box and not a polybag.  So do the Studios 'Camera Man' and 'Stunt • Man'
sets.  But you're right - the stunt man is a bit cheesy.  The Mono Jet is
worth the small price since you get a 'Star Wars' engine.

The other sets in the LoM series are interesting - strange Martian • minifigs,
a few pieces I've never seen before, and some new odd colours as well • (light
blue, light green and light red?).  Has anyone identified the new colours • yet?

I've tentatively identified them with the names:

Grey-Green - same as Statue of Liberty color(?)
Grey-Red
Grey-Blue
Grey-Purple.

They are lighter in tone than than regular colors, but also have a 'faded'
look to them - hence the 'grey'.

BTW, in some of the LoM 'Human' sets are some light blue elements.

(...) Actually, given that the larger set is an "excavation" somethingorother, I realised that all the Martian equipment could be interpreted pretty easily as mining equipment, too! eric (24 years ago, 11-Dec-00, to lugnet.year.2001, lugnet.space)
