This is an awesome idea. Instead of having these static categories which are
more or less seperate I could have one database to dip into. I love the idea
of having the keywords asigned to a creation-- a user could make any sort of
list they wanted. Problem is I don't kow the first thing about data bases or
managing them or the software involved. This really is ideal though.

The ideas you had for letting the content decide the categories were dead
on. I picked (after going back and forth a bit) a medium between a few
categories I wanted, some I knew would grow quickly (fighters), and allowing
some to be created. I've eliminated quite a few in my head as well as on the
site.

One thing keeping me from removing empty categories such as speeders or
robotic craft is I'm afraid people will not think about submiting them.
Hmmm... this brings up several issues:

-maybe I should over haul the submission page to tell people to submit
whatever they want (still one of each) Say that
-should I have some general categories as a holding tank for future
sections?
-am I controlling content too much in the manner in which I'm organizing
the models? I need to find a solid way to organize incoming models and yet
have as many types of ships and as much creativity on the site as I can...

Lots of things to think about.

Maybe you should have a database with multiple keywords for each creation
submitted to the GS archives.  Based on the number of creations available,
you could use these keywords to determine your level of discrimination. • For
example, when I submit a fighter, I might catagorize it as a 'medium,
carrier based space superiority fighter' or 'heavy ground based variable
configuration fighter/gunship'.  Initially, when there are 10 total
fighters, you could have a single 'fighter' category.  When the number • grows
to 30, you could split them into 'light, medium, and heavy' fighters. • When
light fighters grow to 30, you could split them into 'carrier based and
ground based' or 'variable configuration and static configuration' or
whatever.  The heirarchy would grow with the content.  The *coolest* way • to
present the GS would involve a database that lets the user discriminate
dynamically based on any keywords he or she likes.  "Show me variable • heavy
fighters by Jon Palmer".

When I think Spaceworld, I think universal space model archive with
relational groupings by author, world, and so forth.
