This is an awesome idea. Instead of having these static categories which are
more or less seperate I could have one database to dip into. I love the idea
of having the keywords asigned to a creation-- a user could make any sort of
list they wanted. Problem is I don't kow the first thing about data bases or
managing them or the software involved. This really is ideal though.
The ideas you had for letting the content decide the categories were dead
on. I picked (after going back and forth a bit) a medium between a few
categories I wanted, some I knew would grow quickly (fighters), and allowing
some to be created. I've eliminated quite a few in my head as well as on the
site.
One thing keeping me from removing empty categories such as speeders or
robotic craft is I'm afraid people will not think about submiting them.
Hmmm... this brings up several issues:
-maybe I should over haul the submission page to tell people to submit
whatever they want (still one of each) Say that
-should I have some general categories as a holding tank for future
sections?
-am I controlling content too much in the manner in which I'm organizing
the models? I need to find a solid way to organize incoming models and yet
have as many types of ships and as much creativity on the site as I can...
Lots of things to think about.
