  New MOC: RedTail air-racer

Hi, Had some time off this week and decided to slap this one together. It is heavily inspired by the GeeBee air-racer of the 30's and a fish I ate the other day. While the overall shape is not terribly aerodynamic, with the straight wings and all, I (...) (20 years ago, 25-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, lugnet.announce.moc, FTX) !!

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) I like it! The curved front on the wing really gives it the aeroplane look. (...) Is is. Is that bad????? ROSCO (20 years ago, 25-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) Sweet! Nice landing gear. But it's gotta be a bugger to land and taxi! ;] (...) Well, as long as you don't expect it to go very fast, the straight wing looks okay. But you can forget about high subsonic speeds. Or just claim that the wings (...) (20 years ago, 25-Mar-05, to lugnet.space)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) I would say you achieved that in a superb way. At least the retro thing is the first thought I when I looked at it. I like the fact that it looks tough. It looks like it could take some punishment during a long hard flight. (...) In this case (...) (20 years ago, 25-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) So slick, so tasty... I love it. And I'm always impressed by wheeled gear that folds completely inside. The transition between the main part of the engines and the exhaust portion seems a bit clunky, but only because the rest is sooo smooth. (...) (20 years ago, 26-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

Brent I have a problem with your ships: I want to build all of them in minifig scale... and this one is no exception! I love the overall structural simplicity of this ship: one wing, two engines, and one cockpit / canopy. Beautiful. And yet you (...) (20 years ago, 26-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) Thanks for thinking it is cleaver, but really it is just simple geometry. When I get an idea for a model I always work it out on paper first. In this case I knew the general proportions (length vs. width) of the wing and using plate thickness (...) (20 years ago, 26-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) I agree the engines are for sure the week point. I made them removable so if I ever get a clue as to how make better looking ones I can easily yank the old one off and snap new pretty ones on. (...) Thank you! Brent (20 years ago, 26-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) Yup, I am sure it is, but then again so was the original GeeBee racer. Maybe in the future you wont have to worry about good visibility -- at least that is what I keep telling myself. (...) Well, that is not entirely true. The X-1, the first (...) (20 years ago, 26-Mar-05, to lugnet.space)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) Believe me if I had the talent to build in minifig scale I would. But I really stink at it. Thank you! Brent (20 years ago, 26-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) Thank you! (...) According to her she felt that it contrasted with the overall shape-- I reminded her though that these are Lego blocks and they are by definition chunky. (...) Thank you for your comments! Brent (20 years ago, 26-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

Wow, that is really interesting! I really like the way you build. More! e (20 years ago, 29-Mar-05, to lugnet.space)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) A few days late, due to the weekend and being ill yesterday, but made MOC Highlight. Excellent work, Brent. Your technic-fig scale stuff has been very interesting to watch as it develops. All of the MOCs have been excellent, but it seems that (...) (20 years ago, 29-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) Thank you very much, you made my week. The progression of my style is mostly due to the feed back I have gotten here and via email. Without the experienced observations of others I would still be wrestling with the shape confines of Lego (...) (20 years ago, 30-Mar-05, to lugnet.space, FTX)

  Re: New MOC: RedTail air-racer

(...) Thanks you! (...) Unfortunatly I am now offically out of white tiles -- I guess the x-wing goes to the chopping block. Brent (20 years ago, 30-Mar-05, to lugnet.space)
