Thanks Gil,
The diorama approach does beat the hanging sheet backdrop, for sure. I
believe that Paul and
Keith (among others) would agree it takes
rather a lot more bricks to build a background for some MOCs. The bike is
only 15 pieces, while the diorama is 101 pieces, (not counting the tool cart)
but thats lots of big pieces like 1x16 and 1x6x6 bricks etc. So theres a ratio
for you. Id hate to count the parts in those bigger dioramas that others have
built.
I think the relative number of necessary parts is why we see more vehicles and
fewer backdrops. That and the fact that a backdrop isnt very swooshable. ;-)
I missed those idea books, but I remember those skyscrapers from the early 70s
that were as tall as a kid and made entirely of white and clear bricks. Thats
what spurred on my early acquisition phase. Then the idea book that is .space
and .castle, spurred my post-dark age spending spree. So, more to come...
And, of course, I do hope more builders come up with stuff like this too.
Peace and fun,
Professor Whateverly
